There is a lot of information out there on black powder loading. Mike Venturino and Steve Garvey have written a book or two about it, they are worth searching out. I would strongly suggest you do a web search on the subject, there are a few long, detailed articles available, as well as books that cover the subject. In short, it really isn't synonomous to smokeless powder loading, and carries some risks of igniting the black powder with static electricity if you use plastic funnels, powder hoppers or other powder handling devices. You will need a copper, brass or aluminum drop tube about 24" to 30" long to drop your charge in the brass. I can only get 62 g. of FFg in new manufactured Winchester Brass using Goex FFg and a 30" drop (with 1/10" compression by the bullet and base wad). Use a base wad cut from milk carton, plastic coffee can lid, or a vegetable fiber wad (Walter's Wads). Bullet lube can effect accuracy also. Read up on what is available and try several. You will also likely have to try a number of different lead bullet weights and designs, cast about 1:20 to 1:30 tin to lead, to optomize the load for your rifle. Good luck, and have fun. | ||
