This my first trad muzzleloader I have built finished last summer. Took me 7 months to get it done, and right at 300 hours. I cant wait until I get my next one done. (FYI-Everything in the pic is handmade) Early Lancaster: .54 cal, 36"x1" GM barrel, Grade 3 curly maple stock. ![]() ![]() Was quite suprised it didnt blow up in my hands...that is always a plus. One of our friends lent me some powder to spark a few rounds off. shot a few stumps just to see if it would work. then i put it on paper. 2-3 shot groups at 50yds. Not bad. 1st group is the bottom 3, 2nd group is the top 3. ![]() I have shot it many times since, and the accuracy always gets better. If all goes well I plan on taking a deer with it this fall.

Good job on the rifle. Now treat it right and use nothing but Goex black powder in it.

Fine rifle. The Early Lancasters have always been my favorite flinters. I have one of Matt Avant's in .40 caliber. Very nicely done, you should be proud of your workmanship!! Rich DRSS

I also have one of Matt's guns. Mine is a smoothbore 62 cal. or 20 ga. and it is a good roundball shooter and a fine grouse gun.

I thought about a big bore smoothie, but I have a Mike Sullivan finished 25 year old early Center Mark Fusil de Chasse. It's killed a ton of stuff, from birds to bull Elk. Rich DRSS
