Does anyone know anything about Goex .45 Colt BP ammo or any other loaded BP ammo? I am thinking about trying some in a Freedom Arms .45 Colt pistol for close range whitetails. Thanks! Mark

I use Bullseye Powder , burns clean and accurate ! Hodgton Trip 7 3/F is a great load for these calibers you must crush about .050 to .100 for safe loading with trip 7 bullseye look at loader charts for the safe loads for the bullet weight you are using .

I can't help with Goex loaded ammo, but I load Goex and other blackpowder into cartridges for hunting. What exactly do you want to know? I don't doubt that the colt will work well enough for a whitetail. Brent When there is lead in the air, there is hope in my heart -- MWH ~1996

I have loaded my own and shot some of the commercial stuff. What is it that you need to know? It is a rip! Geo.

About the second part of your question. You can get about 970 fps from a revolver with a 7.5 inch barrel. Using Winchester cases and heavy compression with a separate compression die, you can actually stuff 40 grains of FFFg into a .45 Colt case. Then top it off with a 250 grain bullet. Use 1:20 bullets and a soft lube meant for BP. I use a very heavy crimp and hot primers like WW LP, which are my favorite for BP apps such as this. I am not convinced that it is necessary to drill out flash holes for this short, fat case and these modest charges of powder. Most of the time, I use 2.5Fg for the .45 Colt, which was what the factory used originally, they say. I wasn't around then to verify that. I mix half and half FFg and FFFg to get it. All it does is reduce the velocity a little. FFg alone reduces it a little more. For fun shooting, reduce the load some and use more modest compression. Geo.
