<reverenddan>What to buy?
I am new to the blackpowder scene. I have recently gotten hooked up with a local club and suddenly my little .36 caliber revolver that kept me happy for so many years isn't enough!
So I am looking for a rifle for hunting and some casual steel shooting.
My paramaters are this,
1. I have a .54 caliber mold.
2. I won't spend more that $300.00.
3. I won't use inline and prefer not to complicate things with flintlock.
4. I won't buy anything with a synthetic stock.
(Am I on target with the .54 mold? Is one caliber better?)
So here goes...
Let's hear what everyone has to recommend.

54JNollYep,
I second the suggestion of the Lyman. Most find that they shoot better with the primative buckhorn or semi-buckhorn sight rather than the adjustable sight. Once sighted in there is no need to adjust the sights anway.

<eldeguello>Preacher, you need to spend a little more than $300.00, and get a Lyman Great Plains rifle in .54!! A .54 is an excellent caliber, especially for shooting round balls, and is a great elk caliber as well as for deer. This is the caliber of the Lewis & Clark Expedition's M1803 Harpers Ferry rifles!!
