Gents -

I've been using T/C 370 gr Maxi Balls with excellent accuracy (2" groups at 100 yds) and results on deer (clean holes all the way through)!

BUT, the Great Plains boolits appear to not need lubing... thumb Is it twue???

And what kind of accuracy could I expect from the H'dys with ffg Goex? (I am kinda a traditional guy - have some 777, but I like the old stuff!)

I have some for my .54 T/C. They are pre-lubed with a waxy bullet lube. I don't add any other lube, just seat them. I can keep my shots on a pie plate easily enough to 100-150 yards, which is all I've really asked for.

Sounds like your's is shooting great with the Maxi's. If it ain't broke, why fix it?

Oh, and yes I'm shooting Goex FFg.

The mess of lubing!!! That's the onliest reason.

I find that the pre-lubed T/C Maxi Balls are also "sized" somewhat, so they are a looser fit in my barrel and don't shoot worth squat.

Congrats on a fantastic buck, Ron! But your other data doesn't help me. I'm wondering about performance in my factory T/C (48" twist) bbl and whether the H'dys need lubing.

With your slower twist I would look at the 385 hollow point. It has been a proven bullet in many 1-48 twist barrels and even in some 1-66 slow twist guns. At the time I found the lopsided TC bullet I also did some testing on the Hornady 410. They are swagged not poured. They are much more uniform. I measured them with a Mic and I weighed them. The are very uniform. That means consistancy in your groups if all else is equal. In my guns the hornady is a proven bullet. The two 410 gr bullets I have dug out of animals that were shot at about 160 yards weighed 350 gr each (not the same buck as above). the bullets were mushroomed and pealed back. But they held much of their weight. The bullets sank deep into the buck from the flank area and were found in the front shoulder.
I think you should try the 385. Forget about lube. The Hornadys have the best lube of any ML bullet in my opinion. It keeps the fouling nice and soft, but is not messy in warm weather. In my opinion it is the perfect factory bullet lube.
Now the Hornady lube in a tube is NOT the same stuff. It is messy and is a pain in the hid end. I use the stuff in the tube to lube my over powder buttons in my .458 ML shooting 475 gr whitworth bullets.
Get the 385's you will be happy. Ron
