Has anyone successfully done this modification? I know TC says the new barrel will not fit because they need a spot for the ramrod in the old frame, just wondered if anyone has tried this or is commercially doing this mod?

IIRC T/C doesn't want folks using the G2 209x45 barrel on the original Contender frames because of the sensitivity of the lockup or the trigger interlock to BP fouling. Might be so considering the G2 is essentially a miniature Encore. Of course several aftermarket houses made 209 systems for the original Contender before the G2, so who knows for sure?

I've heard that Gonic holds the patent on the BP barrel for the Contender, and that T/C makes the new 209 x 45 barrel to fit the G2 and not the original due to a previous agreement with Gonic. From what I read on a couple of other sites, the new barrels have a protruding pin that prevents them from being installed on the original Contenders. I haven't seen one, but rumor is that the pin can be easily ground off, to the point where it will fit the older frames.

Doesn't anyone here have both frames and a 209x45 barrel? I apologize for the being the sort of T/C owner who has only one Contender and one Encore frame...

Thats not true, the ramrod sets against the front of the frame and is held in by a spring steel clamp in the forend pressing it against the forend lugs. there is no hole in the front of the frame.

There is a pin protruding from the bottom of the lug that prevents the barrel from closing on an original (not G2) frame.

I own an original and a G2 Contender, and I have a 209x45 ML barrel. Smiler Rumor has it, all you have to do is cut off the pin to make one fit, but I won't try it to find out.

How do you like the G2 compared to the Contender? How is the 209x45 to work with?

Each has their own +'s and -'s. My original was bought as a Pistol and the G2 was bought as a rifle.

I love the adjustable trigger on the original and that you can dry fire it without pulling the hammer back, but you have to open it to recock it.

On the G2 I like being able to let off the hammer and just recock it without breaking open the action, but it won't let you dry fire it at all.

The 209x45 barrel has limited options on what bullets are available. I did find some sabots that allowed you to use 357 caliber bullets, so you aren't stuck with just 40 caliber bullets.

If you get a ML barrel go for the 209x50 as most places will have more of a selection of products for it.

I'm still working on finding a good load for it.
