Pete, that Great Plains would be a good choice. It's long and heavy but the Hunter version has a faster twist rate which would allow you to shoot heavier bullets. I don't think you would want to go after Kudu or Wildebeest with a round ball unless it was a very LARGE roundball. ![]() So I would be looking for one that has a faster twist, possibly a good bullet mould to match the rifle, and stock up on powder and caps/primers while there (as much as you are allowed). If there are other bp shooters in the shops, you might want to ask them what their recommendations for rifle and bullets are. Guess we sometimes don't realize how lucky we are here in the States for product selection and pricing! (among other things ![]() But I hope you can pick a fine rifle and truly enjoy the experience of muzzleloading.

Derf, Thanx I'll give it a squirt. He said he had a big shipment coming in. This Deerstalker is the last of the previous lot they got as a "toedipper" to test the market. He says they were cleaned out of the better rifles in 2 weeks. No-one is punting Thompson Center, it seems. Cheers pete

Pete, see if you can't talk your dealer into bringing in a Lyman Great Plains Rifle or a T/C Hawken. 2 of my personal favorites by the way! ![]()
