There's 2 dates they carve on your tombstone.
Everyone knows what they mean.
What's more important is time that is known
as the little dash inbetween.

Sure; I just fill the case up to the base of the bullet with 3fg, allowing about 1/8th inch compression. For cowboy shooting that is good enough but you might get better results with a wad and soft cast bullets. It really booms totally different than a smokeless sound, and gives you the feeling of what they were like in the 19th century. Clean with water.

That takes me back...twenty plus years! Loaded up a Colt New Service in 45 Long Colt with BP. It made a lot of smoke six round fast at double action.

But my was it a PITA to strip and clean. So if I were to do it again I'd stick with jut doing it in something like an 1873 Model...easier to strip and clean!

As others have also said the modern solid head cases won't hold as much powder as the old balloon head cases.

BTW take a jar of water and drop your fired cases in as soon as you've fired them. Otherwise they are pretty much ruined.

I had a blast with BP in my .45 Colt. lots of good sulfery smoke and none of the heavy recoil.

Not a real good cartridge to load with BP unless you like to do a lot of gun cleaning. The pressure with BP is so low that they don't seal well. Most Cowboy shooter that go BP cartridge uses 38/40 and 44/40 as the cases are a lot thiner and seal better. It will work -but.

Your brass won't be ruined if you don't clean them right awaay if you are using BP. Clean them with vinegar; that will fizz out all the bp residue. I sometimes wait a year; no problem. But you should clean asap; If you clean right away, you can use water.

I have shot quite a bit. If you just want to try it out, buy a box and see what you think. You should use soft cast bullets with real lube (not wax type lube). I really enjoyed shooting them in my Colt's SAA's and my .44 colt conversion gun.

Throw the brass in a container with water and some dishwashing detergent after you shoot them and your brass will be fine. The guns are not that hard to clean either. Hot soapy water and windex with vinegar will make quick work of the clean up. Just don't wait to do it!
