Is it necessary to send a BP rifle thru a ffl dealer. I was under the impresion I could ship it directly without ffl's. Any input would be appreciated.....Thanks

There is no problem shipping a BP gun as long as it is traditional and you are not able to change it to a regular rifle or pistol , such as a TC 209x50 etc .

Mainer is correct up to a point. Some states have more restrictive codes and muzzle loaders are required to go through background checks and permits, etc... You need to check the laws where you are shipping it to. Dennis Life member NRA

I live in TX, and less than an hour ago I mailed a White 50-cal. Whitetail to a friend in Idaho. I used the US Postal Service, and it was absolutely painless. Just told the guy what it was and he asked me if it was loaded. It wasn't, of course, and he took it without further ado. I believe the GCA of 1968 specifies a bp firearm as a relic, and allows them to be shipped without paperwork across the states, but I may be very wrong...

AND, as long as the jurisdiction to which you plan to ship it has no laws against such activity. It has to be legal, where you're sending it, as luckyducker said.... "Bitte, trinks du nicht das Wasser. Dahin haben die Kuhen gesheissen."
