Just got an Encore. I've never had a muzzle loader, before and am excited to try it out. I have some questions, if any of you have time to help out, I would really appreciate it.

I bought some 777 50gr pellets. The salesman said you can use up to 150grains in this rifle. Why would you use 100grs, if you can use 150grs? It seems you would have better power. ?

Also, someone told me the 777 pellets would foul the bore QUICK. He said I would have to clean the bore after EVERY shot. Is this right?

Is there any benefit to shooting actual black powder or Pyrodex or 777? What about the pellets?

Is there a web site that give a lot of information on BP shooting, loading, cleaning, etc?

Thanks for any help!
Dave

Dave,I have not played with the Encore BP rifle, but like all BP rifles/handguns/shotguns you have to mix and match and try different loads to find the sweet spot that one likes, it was my understanding the Ruger sent suggested loads for it, you mite try there. When testing loads I keep a wet shotgun mop that fits the bore, so to wipe out between shots or strings of fire
