I just killed a doe this past sat. on the opening day of muzzle loader season. I am shooting a Thompson Encore 50 cal. with 90grn by volume of Tripple 7 pushing a 45 300grn Hornady XTP bullet with a red Traditions sabot. I shot the deer in the chest and the bullet traveled lenth wise through the deer and ended up just under the skin near its bung hole. I recovered the bullet and cleaned it and weighed it. The bullet weighed 275grns and expanded good. Not a good way to shoot a deer but hey sometime you take what you get. Venison is in the freezer and that is what counts.

Strong work. I really like those XTP's. I hammered a doe at 44 yds sat. am using the 240 XTP and 3 pellets of 777. The deer was pretty much facing me. I was above her in a stand. When she turned back to lick her backside she exposed her neck rather well. A carefully placed round went in at the base of the neck/throat and didn't exit. DRT- Dead Right There. Very Dead. The insides were mush. Lungs sticking out the entrance hole. I didn't try to recover the bullet. Yest. PM I put a high round in another deer at 150 yds. Right under the spine (it smoked part of a tendorloin) and exited out of the opposite gut. DRT. Did I mention I like XTP's? Catmandu
