My next door neighbor was given 1 lb. of Pyrodex P (fffg) and wanted to know if it was ok to use in his T/C encore 209x50? I am not a blackpowder shooter (yet) so I told him I would ask the question to the experts on this forum.
Thanks for the replys,

I'm sure not an expert but if it is truly a fffg equivalent powder then it should be ok. I'd use the old standard and start with the grain per caliber rule. (Charge weight should be equal to the caliber). I.E. 50cal would be 50 grains of powder. Start there and see how it does.

I'm not sure what the twist rate is on your Encore, but in my .50 with a 1-48", the MOST accurate load I've found is 50gr. of FFFg (Goex) with an Ox-Yoke over powder wad and a patched round ball. And since Pyrodex P is a FFFg equivilant, it should work fine. I'm not that familiar with the blackpowder substitutes, so a little (safe) experimentation may be in order. Have fun.

Before I switched to 777, Pyrodex P was all I used in my 50 cal with bullets up to 250 grains. Tell him to reduce the charge by at least 10% and to use bullets on the lighter side.........
