Well after quite a few years I finally got a New Englander in 12 ga.
Just looking for some comments from other owners about loads etc.
Thanks

You should have quite a bit of fun.

TC long recommended that you load one or two of their wads as over powder and cushion wads and a third as an overshot wad. I found that resulted in blown patterns.

My suggestion is that you get the Blue and Gray wads that fit your bore (12 ga.). You will need the overpowder/overshot in the 100 ct. bag. That's one of each x 100 or 200 separate card wads. The overshot is the thinner wad. You will also need a good cushion wad. I like those soaked in wonderlube. Be sure to store where the mice can't get them (I use a steel ammo can) as they love 'em. You can also get the 12 ga. fiber cushion wads and soak them in your own favorite lube. Of course you'll need shot and caps.

I like to premeasure shot and powder charges but if you're feeling flush you could get a shot snake and flask. What's nice is that you can pull a shot charge only (just use the worm to hook the overshot card wad and pour the unused shot into a container and change for a different size if you find that game different from that expected presents itself. If you're careful, the overshot wad might even be reusable.

Load in order: powder, overpowder card wad, cushion wad, shot, overshot card wad and cap.

My best loads are volume for volume 1 oz loads of shot and same VOLUME of powder or 100 gr. powder and 1 1/8 oz shot.

I've taken everything with my BP shotgun that I've ever taken with a standard cartridge gun but the pace is slower. Not a problem in my area where birds just aren't as numerous as they were when I was young.

Thanks for the info.

This will be my second 12 ga ML shotgun. Bought one of the first Navy Arms Magnum Dbl's in 1974. Used it a couple of years and could get no decent patterns with it. Tried every thing, different charges of powder, Felt wads, cardboard over shot, and most of the plastic wads available then. Finally got so upset sold it to a guy who could not live without it. Wish I still had the gun.

This T/C has their choke tubes in the barrel. Got checking them vs the Rem choke. The T/C is a shorter version of the Rem Choke. Will more than likely convert the barrel down the road to accept the Rem Chokes just becase of the better choke selection.

Will have enough time to play around with some 1oz loads of 7 1/2's for grouse. Plan on using 1 1/4 oz or 1 3/8 oz of #4 Bismith for ducks this winter.
