I am looking at buying a blackpowder rifle. I have a friend that has one of these that has never been fired. Is this something that is worth having or not. It is a bolt action.

Any help would be great

Kevin, I have two of those Lightnings. A .45 and a .50. My hunting buddy GAVE me the .50 and bought an Austin & Halleck. Why?? Snob appeal I guess, because that .50 Lightning Lightweight is an excellent gun! It is so good, I decided to buy a .45 just like it to be able to use some old cast lead .45/70 bullets for muzzleloading.

These rifles have adjustable triggers, and if you can adjust the Model 700 Remington triggers yoursself, you can adjust the Lightning triggers. I put scopes on both of mine (bad eyes!!), and they both shoot very well. I don't use pellets, or maximium loads. My 50 shoots about 1.5" @ 100 yards using 295-grain Power Belts and 90 grains of Pyrodex RS (loose powder). I use the Lyman .457122HP 342-grain cast bullet in the .45 (bullet sized .451") with 90 grains of 777 FFg powder-also pretty accurate.

You will NOT go wrong with the Traditions Lightning rifles.
