Don't make 'em like they used to. The guy who mentored me, who got me started reloading for myself and thinking about all sorts of things I would otherwise not even be aware of is one of the "old school." (71 should qualify). I had to share a recent bit of magic he brought about at the range. For a few weeks he's been tinkering with a new production 38-55 break-open, tang-sighted rifle. He casts his own bullets. So far nothing special. He only ever shoots at a 24" gong hanging at 440 yards. Recently he was at the bench, a spotter 5 feet over. After an OK morning of on and off hits, he sits down and lines up 5 cartridges. As testified to by the spotter (an IRS agent, they don't abide cheaters), my buddy put all 5 rounds into about 6 inches on that gong. Testament to the capabilities of Blackpowder, Tang sights and to an old Vietnam Vet on a good day. This posted started as just a story, but as I wrap it up I want to ask everyone here to share any stories along these lines. -*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* When I mention a cartridge, the rifles involved: 22LR Cooey SingleShot | 22 Hornet 40sCZ | 223Rem CZ 527 Varmint 30-06 Husqvarna Sporter | 300 WinMag A-BoltII S/S BOSS | 458 WinMag Ruger #1

Correction to the original post: It was 5 shots into 4 inches. The rifle is an H&R. For further proof, check out the Feb 2005 Single Shot Exchange. In the letters section the spotter testifies to the events. The rifle itself was written up by the shooter in a previous issue. -*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* When I mention a cartridge, the rifles involved: 22LR Cooey SingleShot | 22 Hornet 40sCZ | 223Rem CZ 527 Varmint 30-06 Husqvarna Sporter | 300 WinMag A-BoltII S/S BOSS | 458 WinMag Ruger #1

I have zero faith in anyone working for the IRS. If you see him,ask him to explain 861 to you. I am willing to bet that he says he has never heard of it. derf Quando Omni Flunkus Moritati

On March 1, 2004, the IRS issued Revenue Ruling 2004-30: "United States citizens and residents of the United States are not subject to tax on their wages and other income earned or derived within the United States." http://w3f.com/861/revenue-ruling-2004-30.txt Interesting tax loophole but risky!

I notice that they didn't state ther case as to what the Act really says and or means but just make veiled threats. Anyone reading this and finding it to be of interest can find more as well as current info at www.861.info or subscribe to Larkin Roses newsletter at T-I-updates-on@mail-list.com Or if you would like, e-mail me and I can forward up to a years worth of newsletters from Mr. Rose. derf Quando Omni Flunkus Moritati

Gonzo, no-one ever said a black powder rifle was inaccurate!! The .35/55 was a 200-yard offhand target rifle favorite for many years, along with the .32/40 and Harry Pope's favorite, the .33/40 (which he "invented" of course!!) Once you find the correct load.... "Bitte, trinks du nicht das Wasser. Dahin haben die Kuhen gesheissen."
