I the Gander Mt store, I just saw shot shell primers by Wincheser, "especially" designed for 777, at $4.29 per hundred.

Is this something special? Or has WW found a way to sell primers for a lot of money?

They help kill the crud from Triple 7.

I tried some of the Win T7 primers and loved them. No crud ring at all. Got them at Wal Mart for $2 less than the Remingtons

Are these just a gimmick to sell primers,or are they like the 209M primers used in shotgun shell reloading for the big magnums?Rather than the standard 209 primer. van

Check out Randy Wakeman's site, he has thoroughly investigated this subject. There is lots of good information there on this subject. It is my understanding that regular 209s are too hot and the muzzleloading 209 primers are weaker. The 777 primers have a special priming formulation to help reduce the "777 crud ring".

The specialized primers do in fact cut down on the carbon ring commonly found in the inline muzzleloaders, wich cause difficulty fully seating bullets and innaccuracy..jim salute
