Not the pellets. Has anyone tried it? I couldn't get Pyrodex to light and I'm worried about the same damn thing with the Triple se7en. I can get it for $9.00/lb.

Have some, but haven't tried it in a sidehammer. I have had trouble getting Pyrodex to ignite consistently in other MLs. Cure was to go to a musket nipple and musket caps.

I'm using it in the 8 bore and the 54cal TC,,had to change the TC over to Musket caps, haven't had a problem out hunting, but I do drop 5 grains of FFG down the tube first . At the range its straight Pyrodex or 777,hangs up every once in awhile with the pyrodex, but not the 777

I use T7 powder, not pellets, in an old TC Renegade and switched it to a musket cap and have had no ignition problems with it. Its clean burning so it wont foul up as bad as Pyrodex. If Im shooting for groups I run a damp patch and a dry patch down the bore between every shot. When hunting our 1 week season , if I dont get a shot the first day I just leave it loaded unless Ive been in the rain. So far the only misfires have been if the cap itself didnt go off, but not from failure to ignite the charge. Keep it clean and you should have good results with it.

Snyper, did you switch to the musket cap before you tried the 777 or after? I use the CCI #11 magnum caps and wonder if they've got enough OOMPH...

Old:

I did it before because I was using Pyrodex. I always had misfires with it so tried the musket caps and that helped. When I switched to T7 I just kept it on there. And the musket caps are easier to get off if I dont shoot. I havent tried it with #11's since I dont shoot it a lot anyway. I have a Black Knight that I use to hunt with and the TC is just a spare. I tried musket caps on it and it wasnt as accurate so I went back to #11's but never had igniton problems anyway

Thanx for the answer. My local Wal-Mart has the 1 lb bottles marked down to $9.00 from $24.00, I think. Guess I'll get one and see what my Lyman thinks of it...

Youll probably find you can use about 20% less T7 and still get the same velocities. Youll love how easy it is to clean up too. When I first started using it I cut my load by 10 grains and got the same point of impact. I havent tried to chronograph them but plan to do that because I need to experiment with some different loadings. Ill be getting a new rifle soon and will be working up a load for it so it will be a good excuse to drag out all the stuff and play around one day. LOL Ive been using the 300 gr XTP's but I want to see if I can find an accurate loading for a 240 XTP. I have a lot of them on hand and can use them in some other guns but only use the 300's in the ML's. If I can get them to work its oone less thing to have to keep on hand and will be just a little cheaper. Let me know how it works for you!

Why certainly! I tried it with patched round balls, and it was a failure! It blows patches regardless of how lightly you load it.

But with conicals like Maxiballs, with a Wonderwad under the ball, 777 worked just fine. I cut the charge 10% from my BP load. My .45 shoots Maxiballs real well with 90 grains of the stuff (FFg size).

It fired OK using CCI No. 11 Magnum caps, just like Pyrodex does in my rifles.

I had a Traditions side-hammer 54 cal, it shot to the right, and the further the distance the more you had to adjust the sight. Sold it at the gun show and bought a Lyman Great Plains 54 cal kit at Wal-Mart it shoots great with 100 gr Pyrodex RS, but haven’t tried it with 777. I bought so much RS at Wal-Mart on sale and have had good luck with accuracy I haven’t seen any need to switch to 777.
