Hi flying-haggis:

I too have an Omega and am well pleased with it. I have a scope mounted on mine for use during the small game season. I am still experimenting with loads but I am getting 2" groups at 100 yards with it so far using 110 grs Pyrodex R/S and 295 gr Powerbelts. I will start hunting feral hogs with it in a couple of weeks during the winter months. Hopefully I'll get to see how it performs on game soon.

I've also recently picked up a blackpowder barrel and fore-end for my Encore. I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet to see how they compare. Gotta love the ease of cleaning though!!

What group sizes are you getting so far? x-caliber

Length of pull is too short for me and the trigger guard doesn't allow enough room for recoil. My hand, shoulder and face take a beating. A slip-on pad may help the length but that trigger guard needs to be bigger. Then again, increasing the length of pull may put my hand in a more normal position as well. Would prefer something more permanent and attractive than a slip-on and may eventually try to come up with something. I've asked T/C for spacers. [Smile]

Can't say the use of plastic spacers in the trigger/hammer assemblies instills much confidence, but maybe it's really GOOD plastic.

Haven't really shot it enough to develop a load. Will probably thrive on sabots only so I ordered in some 300 grain .45 XTPs and black sabots to try. Probably start those on about 80 grains of T7 FFg.

I really like mine, which I bought specifically for a NM elk hunt that I drew in a "primitive weapons" area (I know...an in-line far from primitive...to the purists who I respect I beg forgiveness). I was not into black powder, and I figured I could sell it after the hunt, but I'm going to hold on to it.

I kept it simple and used 3-50gr Pyrodex pellets and a 295gr PowerBelt AeroTip, and topped it with an existing Leupold VIII 2.5-8 scope. I ended up taking a much longer shot than expected. The bull dropped, but I never did find the PB which deflected into the gut but did not exit. I wish now that I would have looked harder as I'd really like to see what the PB looked like. I did find pieces of the green tip at the entry hole.

I don't know if it is the "muzzleloader" aspect as much as it is the "one shot" element, but it is addicting. The Omega is perfect for PA deer, in the early BP or regular season.
