Try some loose 777 before you buy the pellets. See if this stuff performs the way you like. I didn't!!

A lot of local hunters bought Triple-7. A lot won't use it anymore. Reported extreme velocity changes (and corresponding change in point of impact) corresponding with temperature change. That is it appears to be temperature sensitive. When temps range from 17-70 degrees Farenheit, that just don't cut it. That said, I haven't used it. I wait until somebody I know tries out the new products. Reactionary? Cheap? Guilty on both counts.

Thanks guys. Temperature sensitive, that's not good here in Ohio. It could be anywhere from the 50's to -10 degrees during the hunting season here. I have to admit I am not one to jump on the band wagon imediately when a product first comes out. I never did try pyrodex in the powder form when it first came out. It just never bothered me to shoot black powder in my renagade. Now that I have my omega I enjoy the pyrodex pellets. Maybe I'll wait and see how others like the pellets. Thanks again guys for the information. Underclocked, I'll check out that website that you posted later tonight, thanks.

It has a reputation for freezing breech plugs with Savage ML's. I would recommend staying away from this stuff. Reed

I've never shot the T7, but over the years wasted plenty of time and money trying each one as they were introduced. They all have significant problems. The conclussion I reached was you can't beat real Black Powder, it'll last forever (no shelf life issues) if it gets damp it can be dried out and returned to full potency unlike any of the substitutes, and it's actually less corrosive than just about all of them, and is capable of SD's and consistency that the substitutes can only dream of achieving. If you go to the trouble of either buying in bulk and splitting it with your friends or joining a local club that has a BP chapter you can by a LB or 2 at little over the wholesale price which is generally less than half of the cost of the faux BP's. And when you go to the trouble to learn about how BP operates you'll find most of the common wisdon concerning BP's danger is BS, old wives tales. Regards fredj

The 777 pellets are out! Finding them is another story! First reports are that it ia slightly faster(5-10 fps.) with 2 50 gr. pellets. As far as loose T7. I have used it this last fall, thru hunting season. And have found it to be extemely consistent shot to shot, in 0 to 35 deg, It has two endearing qualities: A, it contains no sulphur, so it is not corrosive like BP and Pyrodex. Cold water cleanup is all that is required. B, it places the first shot out of a cold clean barrel within your regular group, not 2 to 4 inches out. As far as the sticking breech plugs, I have 4 inlines, two stick a little and two dont. With the use of a good anti sieze grease, it is minimized. Will it replace Swiss or Goex BP? Absolutely not, especially for the Traditional hunter. However, as far as Pyrodex is concerned, I think the handwriting is on the wall, especially with intro of T7 pellets. Oaklane, you wouldn't work for Hodgdon would you? The problem with sticky/stuck breechplugs is NOT minimized with a little anti-seize. The same practice that presented no problems whatsoever with other powders seized my breechplug badly. It's about to get shipped back to Savage. I will fully admit that it may be a design issue with the Savage and the combination of that design with the use of the 777 causes the problem...much like many failures. But I think it's odd that it took this powder to cause the problem while others did not. I say use at your own risk. Reed

Reed: You're right about the design! My two that stick have a flange around the rear of the breach plug, that is VERY close to the diameter of the recess in the receiver area, and the residue from blowback is what hangs it up. I just use some water and a tooth brush first and it backs right out. No I don't work for Hodgon. It's that I've used Cleanshot, Clearshot, Black Canyon, and Pyrodex and this works the best, for me, of all the SUBSTITUTES. Rememember, I didn't say it would replace BP!
