I have never heard of a BP barrel with a 17" twist that would stabelize round balls at all! I would think with that rate of twist, if it were mine, I would try heavy conicals such as T-C Maxi-balls and there are a lot of other good bullets on the market. Round ball rifles generally have a twist rate of 1 turn in 60" to 72".

van,
The rifle loads I posted here are totally unsafe in your pistol, and I have deleted them for safety's sake. See my post below for safe and realistic info.

OldGuy,
Oops, you got me there. Thank you. I was so incredulous about the twist rate that I missread the barrel length. I will go back and edit that post.
Van,
I would not try any more than 50gr of FFG or an equivalent volume of Pyrodex with a prb.
If you really want to try something heavier, I can't find a listed mould that would work. You might be able to get away with a very light .44 bullet in a sabot (maybe 200-215gr), but nothing anywhere near as heavy as you are proposing, and at those velocities, you would get no expansion, even with a soft lead boolit in the sabot. A .50 cal rb is about 175gr, and probably more than you'd want to be shooting many of in a handgun. That's enough for a coup-de-gras on a downed deer, and it will sure turn some heads at your local range.

Well fellas i thank you for you input, and here is what has happened. First off i also was thinking about the twist, from what i have read, and somebody must be wrong for as with that twist it surely is accurate. Ican put shooting off a bench with sand bags a 5 shot group at 50yds in a 2" circle. So, it works that way with the factory suggested loads.I did try a 45 cal,240gr.xtp with a sabot using 25gr of FF.Somewhat more of a muzzleblast than the ball, but shot in the same spot. So,just an update fellas. Van
