Hey guys, I lurk here only periodically so pardon me it this is an old topic. I recently bought a 16 1/4" 50 cal Contender muzzleloader barrel from Dave Van Horn. W/ initial (and very limited) load development, I shot the same Pyrodex RS I had previously shot in my T/C New Englander rifle. I realize there are a multitude of different powders available these days and everyone has an opinion as to what's best. I'm open to your suggestions, but my MAIN question is whether I should continue using an FFg equivalent powder or should instead use an FFFg equivalent powder? I hope to shoot 240 gr bullets w/ sabots. Gary T.

I would go with the 3f without question. You're shooting a very short barrel for a muzzle loader. Try this experiment. Load with the 2f and the 3f and have someone shoot the rifle as you look at it from the side. Do this at night and see if you see any difference in the amount of unburned/burning powder coming out. If you do please post back as I'm real curious. Heck, if you don't I think I'm try this myself.
