I haven't used my T/C Hawken in about 20 years, back then they didn't have sabots and pyrodex pellets. Can you use these in the Hawkin? On the box of pellets it says use with in-line black powder rifles only.

What is the difference between traditional and in-line? Thanks

pwal,

The pellets are designed to be ignited from the end rather than the side. An inline has the cap on the centerline of the barrel.

Sabots are for fast twist barrels so they probably won't work for you either.

However all is not lost. You can still get blackpowder & roundball & they still work just as good as they ever did.

Welcome! If your Hawkens is a 1-48" twist, you can shoot lighter shorter sabot/bullets like the XTP between 180-240 grains (on average). Make sure to lightly oil the lock -- very-very lightly oil the trigger components since the rifle hasn't been used for around 20 years. She's probably dry as a bone.

If you purchased pellets, take them back & exchange them for loose powder. They are not good igniters for sidelocks. As a matter of fact, Pyrodex pellets must put a blackpowder-substance on one end of their pellets to improve ignition with inlines. If you hold one pellet, you will see one end is almost black... the other side is a little lighter-colored.
