If someone has some experience with the Sharps percussion as to bullet types, round versis conical, weight, lube, and powder type and charges. I have discovered that triple 7 causes "hang fires" and I have used different brands of "top hats" to no avail. (2F BP seem to work best) My rifle shoots fairly well but not at the accuracy I wish for. I had hoped that 777 would work for the ease of cleanup and considered putting a small prime of BP closest to the breech plug for a boost. It seems a lot of trouble but It sure would clean up better. jimbo

accuracy requires that you have an open mind to accuracy.. not muddied up by cleaning problems, etc.. altho i do like accuracy problems to include fouling shot and two subsequent shots,, getting other problems listed in there will take much longer to get accuracy.. all things could be possible in time, but we must listen to the gun,, not our wants and wishes. when first loading for a type of gun as with black powder for instance it takes quite a bit of time and questons to get it locked down.. then thenext one is alot easier.. one tip, ive found the diferent states of oil in the bore will cause different fouling shots,a nd could change impacts.. i now clean oil out beforee the shoot or hunt with hoppies number 9 and dry welll.. if yo wipe with too damp of patch the wet fouling can blow back into the nipel area and make a cement hard crud below the cap.. itwill take alot of time and alot of questions to get agood hold on your new gun.. the muzzel loading mailing list will give you the top info on this.. http://members.aol.com/illinewek/ its an old style list and you must join.. but the guys will get you up and running in no time.. i doubt youll here much good about black powder substitutes there tho.. go to the gallery and you will see why.. we shoot old guns and replicas the way the oldsters ment it to be.. aother hint.. put the gun butt a scale to start,, to give you consistent ramrod pressure on the powder until you get the hang of it.. about 40 pounds is a good place to start. good luck dave..

Thanks for the "brain jog" my rifle has a 1 in 24 inch twist which in my estimation is for conical bullets. RIGHT! 1 IN 60 is for round ball.....The bore is A+ and the muzzle crown looks fine. What do you think. JIMBO
