I'd reduce 10% from the recommended loading of Black Powder (volume) In other words, the manual may call for 120 Gr. of ffg. your load, reduced by 10% would be 108.

That is gonna be one rompin stompin load btw, you going after Grizz?

I use the 570-grain Lyman 57731 Minie-type in my 1/60" twist Green River Rifle Works flintlock with 120 grains of FFg. MV is 1200 FPS, load is accurate, recoil is "noticeable"!! I believe this load would do for anything in Alaska, but for elephant/rhino/Cape Buffalo, I'd increase the powder charge! I believe Val Forgett used up to 180 grains of DuPont FFFg in his .58's with 610-grain bullets in Africa.

I recently tried Hodgdon 777 in my 54 Cal T/C ThunderHawk Elite inline. All I can say is OUCH!!!! I loaded a 120 gr charge behind a 390 grain Hornady Great Plains bullet and got 1750 fps over my Chronograph. That is 300 fps faster than with an equal charge of Pyrodex RS. Felt like I dislocated my shoulder after the third shot and no recoil pad.

in my kodiaks,

i use 610 grain www.customcastbullets.com maxi, and 550 tc maxi's...

start at 90 grains, and work up... the rifle will begin to "crack" and there could be a point were it "jumps" in POI vs POA....

i use 115 grains with 600 grains in my kodiaks, but i built this up slow ... 1400 fps more or less
