Fired my new Pedersoli Sharps Long Range 50/70 in a club silhouette competion yesterday. Very impressive knockdowns on the pigs turkeys & rams at 100, 150 & 200m (one third size target) This Italian company have only improved their products over the years and this latest model 788/507 for 2003 is no exception. Nicely grained European walnut stock with cheekpiece, hand checkering on the forewood and grip with silver nose cap to compliment a huge 34" half round half octagonal 50 cal barrel. While shooting plates doesn't prove accuracy all 200m rams hit had bullet splashes dead center both horizontally and vertically. I have got to get more cases and bench test and chronograph some loads. Incidentally, Mike Venturino's book "Shooting Buffalo Rifles of the Old West", has sure wet my appetite to shoot these replicas more and more. http://www.davide-pedersoli.com/eng/search_rec.asp?item=s788&code=0026&titolo

Bad, this is one of my favorites to play with, how do you have it set up? What loads you shooting?

I opted for the full version with long range creedmore sights and spirit level foresight. First discovery was that the chamber is very tight as cases had to have 2-3 thou skimmed of the around the head (.562) from the standard .565. Bore slugged .510 with little throat. This meant that all projectiles had to be seated well into the case. My loads were all 62gn FFG Swiss black, with Lyman 440gn, CBE 500gn and a Lee 520gn projectiles. For the future I am working toward a mould around 530gn with a two grooves in the case and a bore riding nose like the Lyman 458132. This should give me the full 70gn charge.
