I just compared the triple 7 with the pyrodex shooting over my chrony. My load was 150 gr. of pellets under a 250 gr. Barnes MZ sabot. The pyrodex averaged 2138 fps compared with 2202 with the 7's. Has anybody else tested this powder?
triple 7, all the way... side by side cleanup... i've shot, no kidding, 40 rounds (okay, 20 a barrel) out of my double kodiak, cleaned it up with warm water, oil..
and, a spit patch comes out looking like you popped 4 primers in the barrel, after 4 shots PER barrel
I have used Triple 7 in a .45-90 2.4" with 500, and 530 gr. paper-patch bullets in a Martini. I've noticed a 100-120 fps increase over GOEX Cartridge BP. I don't compress the Triple 7 over .100", whereas the GOEX gets compressed .310", so the volumetric equivalent isn't the same. Just my $0.02.
I have made rather extensive tests with T7 vs BP, Clean Shot, Clear Shot, and Pyrodex! I found you have to REALLY DROP the charge with T7 if shooting patched round balls! It blows patches badly! I quit using it with RB's! T7 gives about 10% more velocity than an equal charge of Pyrodex, Clean Shot, or black powder, and cleanup AFTER SHOOTING is easier than with Pyrodex or BP, but cleanup with Clean Shot and ClearShot is JUST AS EASY as with T7! In ALL my guns, T7 required cleaning between shots in order to be able to reload, WHICH WAS NOT TRUE when Pyrodex was used!
ClearShot is much weaker than any of the other powders, requiring very large charges to give velocities equal to ANY of the others. HOWEVER, ClearShot is the ONLY powder I tested that can claim to be noncorrosive. I left a rifle fired ten times with it uncleaned for two weeks here in damp southern PA, and there WAS NO RUST OR CORROSION IN OR ON THE RIFLE after 14 days!
Despite its' being VERY corrosive, I have gone back to Pyrodex for hunting loads, because it permits more shots without cleaning of any kind than ANY of the others, although both Clean Shot (now American Pioneer) and Clearshot were better in this regard than either BP or T7.
Interestingly, SOME have found T7 to be very clean and fouling-free, while others agree with my experience with it. But I have tried it in two .45's, two .50's, and three .54 barrels (one a double).
Just a quick note with my experience with T7. I shot it in my Knight and it was great. 15 shots without even running a patch down it and accurate for them all. Then shot it in my encore 209x50 and it shot terrible and was very hard to load. My Knight is an old one using caps instead of primers but I believe I'll stick with it. Killed more deer with the old Knight than any other gun in my safe

Just my 2 cents, I also found patching between shot necessary with T7. It was the same in a 45 and 50 cal omega and with ff or fff. Yes there is a velocity gain between 10 and 15% but what good is it, if you can't reload quickly in a hunting situation. At least Pyro and BP let you get the bullet down the barrel without patching every round.

I tried the t-7 again this morning, like someone said it is faster but what good is it if you cannot get the next bullet down the barrel.I thought I had figured out a way to get the crude ring out between each shot but it didn't work this mornung, had to take the breech plug out 3 times just to get my ram rod back out of the barrel. Went back to the pyro-select didn't have a problem.Shoots pretty good with the pyro too.
