I started shooting a couple of BP replica rifles a while back with BP. Originally, I tried them with plain base bullets, SPG lube, and a powder drop. The fouling was hard at the muzzle and accuracy went bad quickly. Then I tried a fiber disc over the powder, a 1/8" lube wad, and another fiber disc before seating the bullet. Accuracy is very good and I can shoot quite a while before I have to run a wet patch through the bore. HOWEVER, it takes forever to load these things. I happen to have a GC bullet mould that will work in one of them. I intend to seat the GC and lube the bullet with SPG lube. No fiber discs or lube wads. I am hoping that the GC will scrape out any fouling like it scrapes out any leading. Anybody ever try this? How did it work?

If you are shooting black and not using a blow tube between shots, you are asking for trouble. The black is by nature a bad foulant, and the blow tube keeps the fouling soft. Otherwise, you should at least wet patch between shots...

I have several BPCTG rifles 40/90 45/70 40/65 .43 etc I stoped using Black powder and went to clear shot ,and use 1000 wonder lub on bullets , 215 Federal primers shoot all day minimal fouling , set bullets so they crush powder at least .100 or more and use fiber disk between powder and bullet . concho@blazenet.net for more info if needed ?

It looks like the idea works. I used a Lyman 375449 GC bullet with BP lube. I loaded it over a full case of BP. No extra fiber discs or lube wads. It took far less time to load them. I loaded up 20 and fired them today. After two fouling shots, I fired six 3-shot groups (each on a different target). The gun was allowed to cool between groups. I did not run a patch through the bore or touch it in any way. The groups sizes at the start and at the end were pretty much the same size. It looks like the GC scrapes the bore clean with BP fouling like it does for leading. I will be doing some more experimenting with it to make sure. Naturally, this would not be for CAS shooting, but for ordinary shooting, it works.

Harry, the heavy fiver wad under your grease cookie is counter productive. It will scrape lube from the bore, not fouling. The fouling is coming behind the wad, not in front if it, and nothing that is left after the bullet and the first wad will be touched by the second wad. Instead of the lower fiber wad, consider wax paper or beeswax foundation (available at apiary suppliers and some candle supply stores). You may be able to reduce the amount of lube that you use this way as well as improve accuracy. Otherwise you have the right idea. I think you will find the SPG lube is not as good as they say it is. I tried it and the last 10" of my barrel was crammed with fouling. I make my own lube now and the problem went away.
