Does anyone know whether a higher front sight is needed on a Lyman GPR when the Lyman No. 57GPR rear peep sight is mounted on the rifle? It looks like the peep sight sits awfully high, even adjusted to its lowest position, possibly necessitating a higher front sight in order to get it zeroed. Also, if anyone has replaced their stock front sight on the GPR with a German silver blade, where did you order it and what exactly did you order? I checked trackofthewolf.com, but the metric dovetail on the Lyman seems to be a problem in locating anything that will fit without a lot of trimming. I want a blade, not a bead up front.

If you fit the 57GPR sight the standard blade will be too low. The appropriate front sight to go with the 57GPR is the 17AEU Globe (at least it was for mine but I guess it will depend on dovetail size). This comes with several inserts, including a couple of different width blades. Adjustable for windage in the dovetail so it is easy to set the combination up just right. I found that the 57 with the disc removed (just sight through the large hole) and the narrow blade was perfect for hunting - I also used the disc insert with the large hole in the front. Also good.
