Anyone here used IMR 4227 in an Encore? Had a guy at my shop today swearing he shot one yesterday with a friend who had been doing it for 5 years. The load was 35-42 grains of IMR4227 and a 200 grain TC Shockwave. I never have tried it and was wondering if anyone else has experience with this. Thanks! GHD Groundhog Devastation(GHD)

I just brought a savage to shoot smokeless in. But then the encore is strong enough. I know the folks at TC use to have fits when one mention shooting smokeless out of muzzle loaders.

is the guy using the tc barrel or does he have a custom barrel. i have an encore that i had a custom smokeless barrel made and i haven't tried 4227 in it but the maker supplied some loading data and i believe it is one of the powders.

If your buddy is shooting smokeless in a standard muzzleloading bbl., then don't go shooting/hunting with him. He is going to injure/kill himself or some bystanders. The steel isn't going to hold together under those pressures. Now there are a couple of companies that make smokeless bbl.'s for the encore. They use steel that is harder and will take the pressures of some smokeless powders. I'd say, if you (or your buddy) are intent on shooting a smokeless ML, then buy a Savage. They are great rifles.
