i have a thompson center 54hawken that missfires when i went to ff-777,prior to that i was using pyrodex, i pulled the breech block off and i noticed there was no powder below the nipple-i believ the hole in end of breech block may be too small to let ff to pass to nipple area-please give opinions.

I use 3F Triple 7 in every caliber from .40 to .58 and never have any misfires ! Take a wooden bowl and a wood rounded stick and grind some of your 2F powder to a finer grain load say 50 grains with just a patch no ball and fire it if it works then you will prove to yourself that the hole is to small for 2F powder

Triple Seven needs a 209 primer to ignite reliably. You're barking up the wrong tree with your Hawken trying to use Tripple Seven.

I disagree ! I use T-7 even with #11 caps in my percussion hand guns Properly clean your firearms and you won't have any problems using T-7 3F Powder 3 flintlocks .45 and 2 .50 never had a misfire using T-7 3F all my aquantences use it and never have any problems , UNLESS they don't properly clean the firearm !

Hey concho,
Not to be a poison pill . your handguns cylinders are basicaly mini-inlines.tripple 7 is not recomended for sidelock smokers. I have absolutely no problems shooting 777 in my TC firehawk 50cal.,with a no.11 cap(inline).
However,I tried shooting it in my TC new englander 50 cal.,no.11cap (sidelock). No good..It missfired 3 of 5 times.I've since gone back to plain old pyrodex for the sidelock and havent had a problem since.
I do think that the reason for this is exactly as Garydn pointed out.the TC sidelocks do have a smaller breach hole than say a traditions or a cva.just a small quirk in the design from our friends at Thompson center. still ,In my opinion they are still the most reliable muzzle guns on the market today.
