Folks, I have several really nice muzzleloading Percussion shotguns. However, given the extreme drought situation nhere in West Texas I am a bit nervos about taking them into the field this year. Do these guns have the potential to spark-up a brushfire if used in a hot dry environment? The second questio is can I use some sort of smokeless powder in them to reduce the threat of this? Thoughts appreciated, Jeff Wemmer

nope, do not use anything but black powder. One of the sporting clays courses by me does not allow bp shotguns because of the potential fire hazard. Might be best to play it safe and not hunt with it untill you get some rain out there. my 2 cents...

Jeff There is a way to use muzzle loaders and not worry about hot coals dropping on ground . This is for all muzzleloaders ! Lay newspaper on ground and shoot your favorite load standing with barrel above paper , if paper has burned holes, reduce load 10 Grains , shoot again ! no burns you now have a safe load ! Need at lease 5FT of paper to shoot over ! Don't take the chip !
