Leupold duel dovetail and the Redfield SMP 3 ring set up. Never had a problem with either of these. Never had a problem with a Weaver base and 2 or 3 rings either.

The only mount I have had a problem with is the T/C Duo-Ring. It must have been designed for pistol use. I did not have enough room to slide the scope around and get proper Eye Reief. With a pistol scope it probably wouldn't have mattered. Sean

I'm glad someone brought this up.

I recently purchased a Weaver setup for my 209X.50 ML.

I do NOT like the looks of this rig. All the base screws are on the back end of the rail. When the base is tightened down on the barrel, I can see daylight under the front end of the base!!!!! Not much, but definitely there.

I have not had a chance to shoot it yet (which I plan to remedy this weekend), but it looks like there could be a LOT of potentially scope-damaging vibration from this setup. Is there a Weaver-type rail with front mounting holes that will allow tying down the front end, using the rear sight screw holes?

Thanks guys for the responses.Wingnut that`s why I posted on this.I just got a stainless 30-06 rifle barrel for my Encore frame and my local gunsmith mounted the same setup as yours on my barrel.I wasn`t paying attention at the time
but noticed the same thing as you have, secured at the back daylight at the front.Does the encore barrels only have the
mounting holes in the back?My gunsmith had already mounted my scope(leupold 1.75x6x32 vari-x 111)on it before I got there so I didn`t get a chance to look at the barrel.
Jules I had a fit over your camo 280 encore! What is the base, ring setup you have on it?Also does the company that camo`ed it for you have a website?I would like to get my encore done.

Due to the length of the weaver 1 piece base, there is a gap towards the front of the barrel...not a big issue or a bad thing in my opinion. I figure it allows for more eye relief adjustment. At any rate, that's what I have on all my Encore barrels....good solid mount at a reasonable price. Can't ask much more than that for MY use...

Amra, The base is a Weaver just like you have. I can assure you that you won't have a problem with it. The reason for the gap is the taper of the barrel under the long base. The straight section over the chamber only runs a couple inches from the end, thus the reason for the holes so close to the rear.

I had the barrel and base done by K&D...I was cheap on the TRADITIONS SCOPE RINGS and used camo tape

Here is K&Ds website
