Double sets, side lever opening, rounded pistol grip, caliber marked "TELL I.32 WINCHESTER CENTR", and has many patents from "AMERICA","ENGLAND", "BELGIUM", "DUETSCHLAND" ,"FRANKSREICH", and "OESTERIECH" (spelling on last 2 may be off.). This rifle is very trim and has several stamps on the breech section asnd receiver. One such is "172/28" is this the proof load? "G with a crown over it, "U with a crown over it, and three that look like haairy faces. I will try and get pics tomorrow. Thanks, moodyholler | ||

Pre WW I German rifles quite often had the bore size expressed as a "gauge" as opposed to a bore diameter. The "172/28" on your Sauer means a 172.28 gauge rifle. The "/" is used in place of a decimal point. This would work out to about a .300" bore, which is in the ballpark of an 8mm cartridge of some sort. Got any photos...sounds like a cool rifle! The pics on your other post are small. From what I can see I reconise the reciver as one commen to vintage Sauer's. Other Sauer kipplaufs I've seen built on this action were chambered for .22 hornet, and 6.5x58. The 30-30 was very popular in Germany in the days of old and I see no reason why they woulden't have built a 32 Win speceal. The 8.15x46 was also very common then especially in target rifles.
