It has both antlers intact. I am holding the side closest to me. It's a three x two (broken off brow tine on one side).

But he was shot in nearly the exact spot that my daughter shot a one horned buck several years ago with her Ruger #1 in 7x57mm. The one horned buck was tearing the heck out of a little pine tree with his one horn when she shot him. That tree is still there but it is very misshapen like a giant Bonzai.

You know I saw a NICE 243 mannlicher I could not live w/o. Darn thing shoots under 1" out of the box-shot 5/8" for 3 with handloads,

I would LIKE Ruger to make it in a 6.5x55 or 260, but I could live with a 7x57, never shot/owned one, love the '08 version, same performance.

What bullets does yours like, and powder?

I am going to be in West Texas in the first week of Dec with my Ruger No 1 Intl in .270. and hope to have some similar picture to show.Congratulations on your buck!! well done, aren't they just great rifles, so classic looking!!!!!!!!

There is NO WAY that you killed deer with that inferior round. EVERYONE knows that the 7x57 is barely acceptable to shoot small game with, let alone a deer. I mean MABEY rabbits and squirls and NEVER over 50yds. What really happened was that you shot those deer with a .308 or a .30-06 and posed with another rifle. ADMIT IT!!!!!

Being so young you probably don't know that the 7x57mm kills game with almost supernatural deadliness. It's like a death ray. Some animals fall down and die just from having a 7x57mm round loaded in a rifle chamber in close proximity to them.

I heard recently that they are now making 7x57 bullets out of flint instead of just using wooden tipped rounds and that the French are considering using it the next time the Germans invade them.

The French did infact use wooden rifle cartridges. There was no need to issue real bullets to their troops since they rarely fired their rifles. The wooden ammo also saved a lot of weight which made their standard battle strategy more effective, that strategy being the practice of 'running away'.

Yeah, well, real bullets hurt, but the French; I guess they could live with "splinters" not tissue hemmorage.

Those Frogs, well fighting was never their thing.....but they know all about having a good meal with some wine......

Current with the French:

The French government announced yesterday that it has raised it's Terror Alert from "Run" to "Hide". The French have only two higher alert levels; "Surrender" and "Collaborate". The rise was precipitated by a recent fire that destroyed France's principal white flag manufacturing facility, effectively paralyzing their military.

The Italian government followed shortly thereafter, increasing their alert level from "Shouting Loudly, Excitedly & Getisculate" to "Elaborate Military Posturing". Two more levels remain, "Ineffective Combat Operations" and "Change Sides".

The Germans also increased their alert state, from "Disdainful Arrogance" to "Dress Uniforms and Sing Marching Songs". They have two higher levels: "Invade a Neighboring Country" and "Loose".

Seeing this reaction in Europe, the Americans have gone from "Isolationist" to "Locate any Country Ripe for Regime Change". Their remaining, higher alert states are "Unilateral Action" and "Take on the Universe".

Finally, in Great Britain, they've gone from "Pretend Nothing's Happening" to "Make Another Cup of Tea". Their higher levels are "Remain Resolutely Cheerful" and "Win" (meaning "Pick a Fight with Argentina, Cyprus, Ghana or any other 3rd World Country"). In parliament today, the attitude level was uncertain at either, "Miffed" to "Peeved". Indications are though, it may be raised yet again to "Irritated" or perhaps "A Bit Cross". Londoners have not been at "A Bit Cross" since the Blitz of 1940, when tea supplies all but ran out. Terrorists have been re-categorized from "Tiresome" to "A Bloody Nuisance". The last time the "A Bloody Nuisance" warning level was issued was during the Great Fire, in 1666.

It's a Leupold 2-7 variable.

Just back from Texas, my No 1 International in .270 with leupold 2x7 accounted for a really nice 10 pointer and three does. 4 shots/4 deer. Buck was a running shot at about 125 yds, what a sweetheart of a rifle.
