Has anyone out there scoped a Browning Highwall. Were there any particular problems that you ran into. I have a .45-70 that I would like to scope with a low power variable or fixed scope. I am looking at several from Leupold, Burris, Weaver, etc.

Just put scope on one 2 wks ago. Be sure the bases fit and that the front base is facing the correct direction. My gunsmith told me that the tapered barrel and the taper on the bottom of the base must mate perfectly. Whomeever had the rifle before me had the front base on backwards and had epoxied it to make it fit. Also ground out some of the bottom metal. Put Leupold bases on it, shot it , all is well

My 45-70 is scoped with a 1x4 Leupold with Browning mounts ,works fine.If you don't want to have to load the round under the scope you would have to forward mount the scope like a scout rifle.
