I love the old Farquarsons, the modern Hagn lock et like..

But how much use did they see against DG early in the last century..?

Would any of you hunt DG with for instance that Farq. in .500 NE that Huvius showed us today..?

With the right PH and crew, I'd certainly give Huvius' rifle a shot at DG.

I used my Ruger #1 450/400 N.E. with 370 gr Cutting Edge bullets for Cape Buffalo last year. Previously used a Ruger #1 in 375 H&H with 300 gr Nosler Partions. Put the shot in the right place the first time. Insurance shots of course.

Yes I will be glad to. Will check my records this evening when I get home.

I would do it with a second man with rifle on hand. That is how we as clients have to hunt with the understanding that the PH may have to jump in. I would expect him to use his professional discretion.

In todays world I would not have a problem using a single shot rifle if I had too, which I don't, One Usually has a armed PH and someone else packing a rifle, so it removes your question, more or less..

Would I go out alone and hunt elephant, Lion in the grass, or Buffalo in thick stuff..No I would not, Ive seen the look in the eye of the Lion and buffalo intent on my body..I want a double or bolt gun thank you. and in all reality, since Ive never hunted DG with a single shot I don't intend to start now, seen too much over the years to be real comfy with one because of the s---t happens principle.
