Hi ,

doing some research on the best LOP for most for the Encore stock. We are making stocks for the Encore and want get some opinions on the LOP from AR members.
TC stocks measure approx 14.25 inches but to me always feel short . Im about 6 ft tall and average arm length.
Our new stocks are 15.0 LOP and seem to feel better in the hand. They throw up and point right on target.
Let us know your thoughts. We can also make youth stocks and would like to know some ideas on LOP for them.

Thanks,

LUX

I'm not sure what's wrong with the factory wood on Encores but they've always felt like a 2x6 to me. The thumbhole stocks handle much better, but a thumbhole on a hammer gun is not the quickest combination. By comparison the carbine stock for the original Contender handles much more like a rifle. I haven't handled the G2 carbine but it looks so much like the Encore I'm worried it's a step backward.

Lux, I'm a bit hesitant to recommend a 15" LOP on the encore as it could most certainly be too long when shooting during cold weather, such as during hunting season.
I have 2 encore rifles and haven't noticed the LOP as being too short. Maybe I should try something longer to compare...

Encore synthetic stock measures right at 14.75"
Encore walnut stock measures 14.75
Prohunter stock measures 14.50"
Prohunter thumbhole stock on the MZ is 14.75"

Above are some lengths I received from different guys on another forum. I just purchased a Stainless-Steel Encore Rifle Frame with the Standard Synthetic Buttstock. It measured 14 1/2" (LOP) as it came out of the box. I swapped out the factory recoil pad for a Limb Saver Recoil Pad and it now measured 14 3/4" (LOP).

I am 6'2" tall with average length arms (ie not overly long arms) and this seems perfect to me. I am thinking 15" may be a bit long for the average guy.

IMO, 15" would be perfect.

I added a Limbsaver to mine and it still is 1/2 too short.

I am about 5'8" with average arm length. The factory synthetic Encore stock is just perfect for me. 15" seems a little long. Mike

I'm 6'3" and I all for the 15" LOP. You can always cut the stock, but to add to it ...that is the chalange!

I just came back from a stock fitter for my shotguns, and it is not cheap, but you learn alot.

Whenever I find a used gun with a 15" LOP custom stock, I jump on it.

Someone has to make long LOP's.

Clothing, shoes, waders, DO the big guys always have to be custom?

My two cents,
Glenn

Hi Glenn,

unfortunately one size does not fit all when it comes to LOP. We will make an LOP that fits you . Let us know yopur LOP when you order a stock.

I am the opposite. Every Encore stock I have, I have had to modify to 13.25" (including pad, which is usually a Limbsaver). I have 15 barrels and 5 stock sets, recently reduced by 1.

Lux,

Thanks for your reply and your beautiful site...you know that I saved it to "My Favorites"

It has been a while since I built a custom No.1, and it was not cheap then! First I had a custom made stock made for this 45-70, then had the receiver color case hardned. The first stock came out beautiful, however U.P.S. managed to damage the stock, while it was returned from the guy who did the metal work. It wasn't my only rifle so it was just a matter of time to have another stock made. I still own the rifle and it is not a safe queen.

Another custom Ruger No.1 was a 7MM STW that I had made out of a 458 Win mag that wasn't being used regularly, no elphants near me LOL. A custom S.S. Shielen barrel etc., it was amoung the first 7MM STW's built, and prior to Ruger's offering a factory made No. 1 in 7MM STW.

The point is your guns seem to be a bargain in these times and inflation considered. My LOP is 15 1/4". I look foward to doing business with you.

Thanks,
Glenn
