I like the cartridge, have absolutely no experience with Ruger No. 1s, but believe it’s high time I discovered for myself what all the Ruger No. 1 fans are talking about. I also like the idea of this cartridge mated with this particular rifle - sort of a poor-man’s “double.â€

I wish I could find one locally to inspect as I hope to find one with decent wood and a good trigger. I must admit I’ve seen some Rugers with wood about two steps below a fence post…and others that were great. Because of that, I’m hesitant to have my local dealer simply order one.

I know this is a long shot, but let me know if you might have a decent Ruger No. 1 Medium Sporter in 9.3x74R just taking up much needed gun-safe space. There’s little worse than a hunting rifle that isn’t earning its keep. I’d show it deer, elk and antelope.

Find a #1 with wood you like, and don't worry about the trigger. Get a fully adjustable stainless one by Moyer for the No. 1 and 3, from Midway for $50. If you don't feel competent installing it yourself, a good gunsmith should be able to change it out and fit it properly in an hour for $25. Fully adjustable for sear and over-travel and set 2-4#.

Found one. Bought it. My very first Ruger No. 1. Now to get it set up and shooting.

This seems, on first pass, to be a particularily well-balance and trim rifle. I can't wait to hunt with it this fall...provided it shoots.
