I sold a 22" pencil thin taper .223 barrel and stock set several months ago into California. I believe it was a Marsh-Al carbine set out of Preston Idaho. The only markings were the .223 marking on the lug.It had a fairly decent highgloss blue on it. Hope this helps. norm

Well Norm,

That little barrel has done some distance since then. It's currently in Colorado, but I took it back with me to Mississippi last winter and connected with a smallish buck at 175 yards using 64 Win ammo. Shot that ammo pretty well.

One thing I did note about this barrel is being thin, it shoots every ammo at a different impact point. Some got down into the MOA range, some did up to 2" at 100yds. Not a bad shooter if you stick with the same ammo it was sighted in with.

So why did you get rid of it? I've just got a Bullberry SS 223 barrel and stock and am considering using this pencil barrel for trading material. I just picked up an Encore pistol in 7mm-08 that I want to convert to carbine and am in need of trading material. Contenderitus with a secondary case of Encoreitus is a bad combo....

And yeah, I got the stock set also. Wasn't too impressed with the buttstock. The Bullberry wood has spoiled me.

Yes,the stock was marginal at best. Seemed to me to be for a smaller individual. Was a little thin for me and did not have a butt pad on it when I sold it. I picked it up in a small collection of Contender stuff. Thought about keeping it but allready have several .223's. Plus I would have cut it to 16-1/4" and had to have it machined for another lug. I wasnt sure if the barrel would have done well as tapered as it was. What were you doing in Mississippi? My family is originly from there. norm

I grew up there. My family is still there. I joined the Air Force about 18 years ago and only get to visit "home" every couple of years. Summer trips for fishing and shooting turtle heads in our pond and winter trip for deer hunting on our 180 acres.

Our place is about 70 miles south of Jackson. Near a little town called Prentiss.

The stock was still butt padless. I considered ordering a file to fit one, but with my Bullberry stocks, why bother. It would never be mounted to a gun anyway. I still have an original Contender Walnut set that doesn't get used either.

Barrel was quite surprising. I thought with the one lug, it would be a 2-3 inch shooter. After trying about 10 different types of ammo I found the couple it liked. Being a pencil barrel, the POIs shifted quite a bit with different ammo, but a couple gave me an inch at a 100, so I stuck with those.

my family is from Collins. I have cousins in Sumrall and Hattiesburg. I know at least 2 are in the Airforce or about to retire.
