a Ruger #1 has nicer wood , a different lever that doesn't hurt in recoil , a rubber recoil pad. the #3 was more of knock about rifle and was only available in 22 Hornet , 223 , 375 Win , 44 mag , 45-70 and 30-40. it will hurt in the heavy calibers
