Does anybody have, or has anybody seen the Mossberg break action single shot? I am curios, as it looks like it has some possibilities for a custom rifle.

I have one in Dirty 06, shoots fine, average 1 1/2 inch groups. Would rather have a 308 but 06 barrel came on this one and at the price I paid I couldn't pass it by. Fit and finish is very good. Just a bit heavy for me. I'll be keeping it.

I have seen and handlesd them. I was seriously considering one, as I am a fan of all single-sghot rifles. I found it to be massively coinstructed, "nix for nice, but hellfor strong", as the PA Dutchman used to say.

I found them a little on the heavy and cumbersome side for their chamberings, but one of these would make a great .375 H&H or .416 Rigby!! [Big Grin]

I've heard they have heavy triggers. Can a gunsmith fix this easily?

I have the Mossberg SSI in 22-250 with the bull barrel. It is not for carring around 10# with scope. I almost sold it cuz it would not group under 1". It took approx. 250 + rounds to settle it down. It has the barrel molyed. It is now shooting 3/4" and smaller groups. It's a keeper. Good shooting. jimjam

Trigger is pretty easy to smooth up. I took mine apart and just polished all the contact points and it helped 100 %. Crisp letoff with a little creep now. If anybody attempts to do their own trigger you had better get some small E-clips for the pins as the copper ones Mossberg puts on will be almost impossible to reuse. I'm sure it'll void your warranty at least on the trigger part of the gun.

Now you have done it. I ordered one in .223 just to see if I can make friends with it - I have heard good reports of accuracy and it has the profile of a somewhat deformed Savage Model 99. I have several T/C Encores and am just looking for something else to play with. Thanks for getting me started.
