OK, I'll hear from you guys that this is a cheap way to go, but I am always pleased about how well this little rifle shoots. I had the barrel shortened to make it handier as my truck gun, and have a 2-7 scope on top. Wish it had a better trigger, but that's about all it lacks. It bangs around constantly but it stays on the money. Just today, after days of scouting and having the rifle bouncing around the floorboards, I gave it a small test. Little wood rat perched on a stump about 25 yards......dead center. mgun

There's no reason for a bad trigger if you are the DIY type, a crisp, 2-3lb or lighter trigger is fairly easy with a little time spent honing the trigger group.

Thanks for that but I am not at all that handy, and on this rifle it looks to be a chore to remove the trigger group. One of these days I'll have a gunsmith do it for me.

I f you take it to a gun smith, I sugest you print the Perklo"s directions. Not too many gun smith work on Handi's. Save him time to research the trigger.

If you want a light trigger of say 1.5lbs, the trigger return spring has to be replaced with a lighter one of about 6-8 oz.

Bill:
Go to Graybeardoutdoor.com
and read the NEF stickys.

There's several great article's with pictures and detailed instructions on doing the trigger jobs and swapping barrels to another action and a bunch of other things you'd find interesting about these fine cheap guns. They're easy to work on whether you do it, or you hire it. These can be printed out and would make a great addition to your gun books for just in case time's.

I'm picking up my third one in the morning. By mistake I got a .410 thinking it was the one that would shoot both 410's and .45 colts which I was wanting. Store was just as confused as I was at the time so I got the wrong one, and wood stock too. Paints flaking off and hasn't been fired yet.

The action on that one is nickle, sure looks sharp with the black stock and barrel. But, the painted wood is lousy! Am going to swap the .17HMR barrel and plastic stock to it and rechamber for a .17x28mm center fire about equal or some better than HMR and a hell of a lot cheaper to shoot.

The other one is a .17M2 which I was hoping would be good for up close in the corrals for p/dog's. BOdy shot didn't kill one at 75yds. Found out right quick it's gotta be a upper chest or head shot to kill grown one's.

Wish you well, glad you like it, I sure do. Believe the next one I get will be .223.

That's good advice on the trigger job.

I have a NEF .223 that I ran an AI reamer into and it is a wonderful gun, I just wish it had a 1 in 9" twist so I could play with heavier bullets. Mine holds "minute of fox" to 250 yds with palin vanilla 55gr.

I love the .17 HMR...luke warm on the .17M2....but then it depends upon what you are doing with them.

I heard if you send it back for another barrel through their barrel accessory program, NEF will adjust the trigger down to 3.5# if you ask. Basically a free trigger job. Everyone could use another caliber barrel, plus your not getting a new gun!

They will if it's not already below about 5lbs, below that they won't touch it. I've had a couple done, they reduced them from over 6lbs to 3lb4oz and 3lbs7oz. But I started doing my own, a 2lb trigger is very doable with just a little honing.
