This project has taken about two years. I bought the barreled action from Mr Hagn, then had it engraved and stocked in a piece of good English walnut. The last nine months were used up deciding on the finish for the receiver. Martin Hagn recommended gas nitriding for surface hardening but I didn't like the silver color. I ultimately decided on traditional case hardening which is real surface hardening, not cosmetic coloring. This steel is as hard as woodpecker lips! The engraving is traditional
Scroll. It's hard to see under the case colors. The barrel is rust blued. Everything else is casehardened. As the receiver loses color with handling, the engraving will show up more. I have a choice of four rear sights and three front sights. The scope is a 2-7 Leupold European in 30mm. Photos: https://postimg.cc/gallery/32jJ8vH

Nice looking rifle. Have you been able to shoot it yet?

No, she's still a virgin. I hope to remedy that next week if the rain stops.

That is exquisite.

I know I am a wimp, but despite the beauty of the trap-plate I would want a recoil pad on a .30-06 that light though. That's pretty much exactly the same weight as my single-shot 7x57 and I have a Pachmyer Decelerator on that...

I do have a question though: why so many rear sight options?

One last observation: please consider getting your engraver to engrave "Hagn" on the scope and get rid of the horrible current pen-mark? It sticks out like a sore thumb!

Superb in every way! A simply marvelous rifle.

Can you let us know who did the metal work, the stock work and the engraving?

The scope was just marked with sharpie to identify it while the rifle was away for finishing. Acetone takes it off. The engraving was done by Frank Conroy in Essex, CT. Metal finish by 2nd Amendment Gun Repair in Pinehurst, ID. Woodwork by someone too modest to claim credit. I had all the sights on hand and just wanted to try them. I like the small front bead and tall rear blade best.

That is a beautiful perfect rifle as far as I am concerned.

Traditional with with a "modern" Style of straight stock/comb. It will be a delight to shoot. It sure is easy to look at!
