Does anyone here have any experience with the Tippmann Armory rolling block rifles in 44 mag or 357 mag? I believe they are investment cast. Nice long barrel (I believe 26 inch) but maybe a little bit too long. The hammer spur is a bit too long for me. I think they are running about $750.00.

This is the specs on the 357. It might be a fun plinker but I don't think I need one.

To me that hammer looks like a cocking lever for your whole hand. I still want one though, I think I might be able to rework it. My plans are to probably turn one of the 357 mag rifles into a 357 x 44 Bain & Davis.

As easy as the RB's break down it wouldn't be a lot of trouble to remove and reshape the hammer to something more...aesthetic. I don't care for the front sight but that could be easily replaced. I also don't care for the lack of case hardening on the receiver. Of course that would drive up the price but would make it a lot better looking rifle. For what it is $750.00 seems a bit high to me but, ain't nuthin' inexpensive these days.

I talked to them Friday and they have started color case hardening with about a $240.00 option. Just a plain basic rifle in 357 mag was quoted to me as $933.00. Don't think I'll be ordering one of them now.

Steve, are you particularly wanting a small bore RB or just a good shooting RB? Simpsons has had some pretty decent old rollers. I think most of the newer ones have been chambered in 8 X 56 Hungarian and they have also had some decent ones in 12.7 X 44R. I suspect either of those would require case forming and obviously load development but I know of some good shooters in those old cartridges. Just a thought.

Just thinking about the Tippmans I guess because I don't have one. I have two of the old Swedish or Danish (don't remember which) in something like 11 mm, I haven't looked at them in about 10 years. I have one Remington action and two Uberti's as well as an Interarms action I had Virgin Valley Custom Guns barrel in 45-70 several years ago for me and it shoots quite good. But I was looking for something to just play with, getting bored with the weather warming up and no new toy to play with and all this time on my hands. Haven't been to Simpsons site in quite a while, guess it is time to go back. Maybe I should crank up my lathe and thread a barrel for one of my actions or maybe not, could turn into to much work and that is something I try to avoid these days.

Being an inveterate tinkerer of cartridges and old rifles I understand needing/wanting a project. Flying completely in the face of the usual old, bigger bore BP cartridges and rifles I play with on Thursday I sent off a check for a Rook Rifle advertised as being in 297/250 Rook. Most of the bullets I use are bigger than the formed case is going to be for that rifle. The petite rifle and cartridge should be a fun project.

You'll come up with something, of that I have no doubt!! Big Grin

If I may ask, where are you in Southern Mo?

Make sure you post some pic's of the rifle and rounds. I have always had a nagging interest for the Rook rifles but believe it or not I have never even held one. I read somewhere that it was popular at one time to convert them to 32-20. That sounds like something fun to do. I'm near West Plains.
