Since I have joined the forum, I've noticed that a lot of SS shooters give high praise for the NEF. I have seen reference to the NEF in the .357 Remington Maximum, but don't see that chambering on the NEF web site. Did they discontinue the .357 or are these custom bbls? I have started looking for one and have been stumped. Any suggestions? Thanks.
NEF might have made 357 Max barrel at one time, I'm not sure. Most people that have them just reamed out a 357 Mag chamber. The problem is that NEF recently quit makeing 357 barrels.

They did offer the Maximum as a factory option for a short time {remember the advert} but they obviously weren't big sellers. I saw one listed in the Gun List fairly recently so keep watch there. The Max has a lot of relatively unexplored potential in a rifle. I have one of the few Savage 24V combo guns in .357 Max/20ga. and it'll push the 180 gr. Hornady XTP well over 2000 fps. I shot a doe with it during the '02 season and was right impressed with it.
I have two NEF 357 Max barrels. One is a rechamber of a 357 mag done by SSK for me a couple of years ago. The other is a factory chambered barrel. They are fun guns and very versatile. The last I knew they still had a few barrels left at the factory..give them a call and ask them. The max is a good deer round and with the lighter weight 357 mag bullets will do varmints very nicely as well. I like the Sierra 170 gr. power jacket or the 180 Hornady XTP for deer. Both shoot well in my guns. I use the same load for both the rifles and pistols. I am also having a NEF 357 mag barrel rechambered to .358 Bullberry. The Bullberry round is the .375 Win case necked down to 35 cal and is basically a rimmed 35 Rem.

I could have bought one of those 357 max over 20 ga I could kick my butt for not doing so.It was $239 because it had a pistol grip instead of a stock. If you wAnt to get rid of It I would be interested.I saw two of those 357 max carbines in the NEF they were like $219.I might get one If they still got it.
I just checked NEF's websight, and by golly, you're right. They don't seem to be offering the .357 in the Handirifle anymore. Any idea why? I was under the impression that it was fairly popular.
