Mounting a scout scope mount directly to the barrel can be done by the likes of Brockman, but you want the rib. Haven't got a No.1 to do any measuring on but a custom rib long enough to mount a Leupold scout scope will reach at least to the tip of the Henry-style foreend. No problem; that's the way the classic singles were stocked, but that sort of custom metal work is going to be spendy. A fella might try the Burris 1x XER http://www.burrisoptics.com/compact.html in Ruger extension rings to move the objective forward of the breech. Burris sell the 1x XER (Part No. 200424) as a pistol scope, scout scope, and a rifle scope; seems eye relief is not at all critical. Then upgrade the factory irons on the existing rib and call it good. One last desperate option is pretty much sacrilege, but one of the better red dot sights wouldn't interfere with the breech.

nordeseta; Thanks for the ideas of using extension rings and a LER scope-thought of that but unless I stay with the flip down factory sight (worthless IMO) it wouldn't work too well. The extension rings would move the ocular fwd about an inch max, not getting me where I need to go. I'll search for Brockman-if he has a website I'll discuss it with him, again, it is only a No 1, so if it costs more than a quarter to a third of the cost of the rifle, I'll pass and think if soemthing else...

The Burris 1x XER is nearly a straight tube scope so there ought to be plenty of room for a standing fixed sight if you run it up to almost touching the main tube. Or, how about finding a way to mount the new Leupold 1x14mm Prismatic? http://www.leupold.com/hunting-and-shooting/products/sc...ope/1x14mm-prismatic Brockman's scout scope mounts are here http://www.brockmansrifles.com/other_access.asp A clever smith might mill Ruger ring mount cuts in the factory rib farther forward, or cut it for Talley or Warne rings...
