Has anyone found any good accuracy loads for the Browning 1885 in 30-30?

Tanker-

So far with my 1885 in 30-30 using the RCBS 150 grain Cowboy Bullet which is flat nose and plain base w/o gascheck with 7.5 grains of Unique I have been able to @ 100 yards get groupings of 1 1/2". Now this is not all the time. The rifle will and can do it. The shooter cannot. This is a very mild load and I have not gone on out to 200 yards. Sorry I can't help with jacketed info. I bought this rifle to shoot in cast Silhouette matches and have not tried jacketed but I would imagine with the right bullet and powder the 1885 should do fine. My rifle has a very short throat and the 150 grain RCBS is the only thing I could find that did not have to be seated below the case neck. I do not use gas checks as our shooting club does not allow them. I think the speed is right at 1300fps. No leading after many, many rounds.

Sounds like you hit on a combination. Are you using any filler? I would prefer a load with greater density but will use what works. Actually a load with a factory cast bullet is my number one priority. I have yet to shoot either of my '85s in 30-30 but am anxious to try them. Have you modified your trigger? I have seen info on the web about easy trigger jobs. I am also looking to buy an '85 in 38-55 if you know of one. Thanks.

Don't forget that in your single shot any .308 bullet should be safe. In an H&R the secret was a 130 gr Hornady spire point over lots of 3031.
This turns the 30-30 into quite a reasonable cartridge for open counrty.

Tanker,
My best load is the 150grs BTSP from Speer wíth a powder charge of 33grs Vit-N140. The groups at 100m with open sight are under 2". With scope it must be better.
