Can a Ruger No. 3 action be converted to No. 1? Will the No. 1 lever and guard fit or are other parts needed or special gunsmithing?

The No 1 parts could be mnade to fit, but it is more complicated than merely putting the No. 1 parts on the No.3 receiver....... "Bitte, trinks du nicht das Wasser. Dahin haben die Kuhen gesheissen."

Was afraid of that. Saw a nicely done No. 3 at a PA gun show last weekend, .348 WCF, very attractive custom PG stock. Fairly priced, would be interested if it could be made into a No. 1.

On a related note I recently ran across a #3 that had #1 wood (the rifle remains a #3 in all other aspects) Link to the pictures and thread

Interesting cartridge choice........ "Bitte, trinks du nicht das Wasser. Dahin haben die Kuhen gesheissen."

Here is my #3 conversion with #1 wood and Alex Henry fore arm and a revised leaver. The rifle is a 375Win and the #3 leaver hammered my fingers in recoil. This new leaver works as well as the one on the #1 Fred M. zermel@shaw.ca

El Deguello. Thanks for the compliment. The big surprise with this rifle was one hole groups with 200gr Win Factory ammo. Alas they are not very easy to find and very expensive in Canada. You would think the bullets were of pure gold. I almost gave up handloading this cartridge since I could not even come close to factory ammo performance. Until I tried a highly H322 116%compressed load with Moly 225gr Hornady SP. This load grouped 1-3/4" at 250 yrds with three shots. This is almost time to quit experimenting but I have room for a 1/2 grain of powder. This would almost reach 2400ft in a 22" barrel, simply incredible. QL predicts 60ksi. As of late I am working on a rebored 243 #1 to 6.5x284, this too is an outstanding accurate rifle with 140gr Horn SP Interlocks. It has an 8.5" twist. The barrel was also milled octagon. Not finiched with the cosmetics yet. Fred M. zermel@shaw.ca
