Rolling blocks?

I have a choice between to types of rolling blocks actions. A remmington #1 action kit by Lonestar rifle co. Or a Remington hepburn rifle action kit , by Upper Missouri trading company. The upper Missouri kit will take a little more work. That's O.k by me. My question is, does anyone own one of the guns/action? Which would be the best for hunting?

Ragland: I guess I would pick the LoneStar for hunting. The Hepburn was a refinement that the target shooters preferred, although either will serve you well. The regular old RB, though, came right after the Sharps on the buffalo range, and Dave Higginbotham at LoneStar probably makes the best rolling blocks in the world.

I have never seen either of the modern kits. I have used both in their original manufacture rifles, however....if the Hepburn you are speaking of is the falling block, not a rolling block variation.

IMHO, I much prefer the looks of the Hepburn, BUT, I equally much prefer the function of the standard rolling block. I never found the thumb-lever on the right side of the Hepburn to give me the extraction leverage I wanted or sometimes needed.

I found it much easier on fired, tight, cases to pull back the "ear" of the rolling block, than to push down sufficiently hard on the thumb piece of the Hepburn.

I have a Lone Star and they're beautifully made with fantastic Turnbull color case hardening.

For strength, and durability, plus ease of loading, I would take a Hepburn desgn over a Rolling Block any day!
I own and shoot a number of both designs (none in the mentioned repros) and the Hepburn will handle hot loads forever, while the Rolling Block is limited in what it can handle.
