JudgeGRuger No.1 Boddington .450 N.E. safety
I saw an ad yesterday for a safety modification that indicates that there may be a problem with spent brass "catching" the lip of the safety with the rim of the .450 Nitro Express.
Does anyone know of this happening and if so, is the modified safety a simple fix?
Here's the advertisement:

butchlocthat is a fairly common problem with #1's, also bumping the thing off when handling it. a bit of judicious file work solved both problems, and i know you're good with judicious files

zimbabweHave installed one of these on my 450/400 and am more than pleased with it. Filing the existing safety is also a solution but be careful when you do that you don't leave a gap when the safe is in the rear position.

Hollis PerkinsJudge,
It's well worth the cost, and an easy install. Even I could do it. And it works.

Mike BrooksIt's easy to do your self and well worth the effort!
If you can replace a spark plug you can change this safety button.

JudgeGThanks for the quick responses!
My rifle should be here Friday. I'll go ahead and buy the modification.

ak49I installed that safety on a 30-06 no1, and no problems firing it from the bench or offhand, I think it´s nicer than the original. Regards

45-70 shooterThe "problem" is not limited to the 450 as the previous poster noted. My 300 H&H (ex 30-06) does the same thing and I usually just shake the empty aside. Too bad Ruger did not come up with the "angle eject" feature found on the 1885 brownings that let you set the ejecting case to go left, right or centr.
